EditMe Interviewed on "Two Geeks and a Girl" Podcast
Friday, August 7, 2009
I was interviewed for the most recent Two Geeks and a Girl podcast: Edit It Yourself! Content Management Systems For The Web. I talked with the group about EditMe as a web content management solution.
The podcast starts with a general discussion of content management as an alternative to traditionally built web sites using editors like Dreamweaver and posting to a server via FTP. From there they cover some of the popular open source content management systems like Joomla and Drupal. Finally, they highlight EditMe as a hosted CMS product providing a turnkey web CMS with no hosting installation and maintenance hassles. The segment on EditMe starts at 31 minutes in.
Listen here:
Some of the points covered in the podcast specific to EditMe:
- EditMe started as a wiki and how it has also become a great web CMS.
- Comparison EditMe as a hosted solution to download/host/install/configure/patch mode of commercial and open source web content management systems.
- How Blogs ushered in a set of open source blog publishing software that is now used to host many non-blog public web sites that aren't blogs. Wiki software with CMS capabilities provide a more suitable set of tools for this purpose than blog software.
- The wiki ethos compared to traditional content management tools: wikis let the content get in so it can be managed as opposed to traditional CMS multi-level access controls, moderation and staging areas which act as deterrents to contribution.
