"Reasonable price, easy to set up, easy to use."

Building software from scratch can be difficult. At first, there's a blank sheet of paper and a vision. Quickly thereafter, there exist designs, code architectures, databases, code efficiency problems, and bugs - lots of bugs at first. Properly managing the process that gives rise to any new software - especially web software - is something that separates newbie hackers from experienced software engineers. LootWorks, Inc. is a new company focused on building online social games based on the popular fantasy books series - Swords. Sound interesting to you? Well, you're in luck, because the company has a game in beta and is looking for people to help beta test.

As a small, but experienced, group of software designers and developers looking to build something that's not only fun to play, but works properly and gracefully handles scale (an increase in volume of users), the team knew they had to manage their software design process, which led them to a internal wiki. In this week's Spotlight On: LootWorks, Mike Kelley, CEO of LootWorks, shares his thoughts on why he uses EditMe and how to make it better.

Why do you use EditMe?

We store the company's design documents and game software specifications.

How did you it before using EditMe?

Google docs.

What's your favorite thing about EditMe?

Reasonable price, easy to set up, easy to use.

What would make the experience better for you?

It'd be nice to have a wider layout available, one that's better for technical docs. The default layout we use is more like a blog).

If I double-click on a page, it opens the editor. That's really annoying because I tend to double click to select a word. I don't think double click to edit is necessary, it's easy enough to use the button.

There are bugs with the visual editing when there are nested bullets; sometimes it gets so confused that I have to edit html just to make the editor function again :(

How do you describe EditMe to friends and colleagues?

Our wiki!

Update from EditMe

"Double-click Editing" can be turned off by going to Settings -> Site -> General Settings and unchecking the "Enable Double-Click Editing" box.

Any EditMe site's layout can be customized to be wider or full-width with a little knowledge of HTML and CSS. We also provide design customization services that could do this for you.

Right now we're working on a new default layout that uses the full width of the browser window. In the mean time, the old "Classic" skins will grow to fit the width of the content in them.

Thanks for your feedback, Mike!
