Product Release: Acton Family of Skins

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Today EditMe released a new set of five designs that customers can apply to their sites. Dubbed the "Acton" family, the new design comes in blue, green, brown, red and gray flavors. The new design options give EditMe sites a fresh new look as well as a set of tools to simplify design customization. A settings page is installed with the skin that allows an administrator to easily customize the heading text and colors, banner images, top navigation and footer content. A dedicated print-only style sheet is also included for clean page printing.

The settings screen for the Acton skins allows administrators to upload alternative banner images to display behind the heading text or instead of the heading text. A logo upload option is also provided that places a smaller image on top of the existing banner image. We'll be posting a page on the wiki within the next week or so with some cool custom banners cropped from Creative Commons photos for use with these skins.

The top navigation links can also be changed easily via the settings screen. You can add and remove buttons or reorder them with simple drag and drop. Other frequently requested additions include a big Edit This Page button on every page (if you have editing privileges) and buttons to manage comments and attachments. Persistent footer content, such as a copyright, can be added via a rich text editor on the settings screen, and Google Analytics is easily integrated by pasting your code into a text box for this and other page tracking scripts.

We're pretty excited about these designs and feel they make excellent use (and example) of EditMe's rich customization capabilities.
